Financing Africa's Clean Energy Revolution: From large-scale ventures to early-stage companies

The African continent is rich in clean energy sources. Canada has been a leading partner for financing the immense opportunities; including through the IFC's Blended Finance Department, among numerous public and private initiatives.

On Tuesday 26 January 2021 we discussed mobilizing private capital flows into clean energy ventures, from early-stage companies to large-scale projects.

In partnership with Global Affairs Canada we were honoured to welcome our panel of industry leaders in clean energy financing and investment - collectively representing over a billion dollars in capital

Official Opening: Antoine Chevrier, Director General for Pan Africa Affairs in the Government of Canada 

KeynoteKruskaia Sierra-Escalante, Senior Manager of the IFC's Blended Climate Finance Department.

Kruskaia leads oversees multi-billion dollar Blended Finance operations at IFC, including approximately $700 million of funding provided by the Government of Canada to support climate-smart initiatives.

Ladé is a seasoned development finance professional with over 17 years of experience. She previously served as Technical Adviser to the former Minister of Finance of Nigeria and was the Head of the Strategic Monitoring Unit.

DiscussantChristopher McLean, CEO of Stonechair Capital, has over two decades of global financial management experience, investment banking, and private equity investments focused on energy and the companies seeking capital for energy development in Sub Saharan Africa. 

In response to the over-whelming opportunities in Africa's expanding energy sector, Stonechair experienced has first-hand experience through their investments, international speaking engagements, the solicitations for project capital, and discussions with investors; through which the #EnergyAfrica fund was born.
