In advance of The Canada-Nigeria Business & Investment Summit which took place from October 12-13 in Toronto, the Chamber was pleased to hold networking cocktail reception at the offices of Goodmans LLP on September 8, 2022.
Nigeria has the largest economy in Africa (a GDP of US$441 billion in 2021) and the biggest population (217 million in 2022) comprising one of the largest populations of young people worldwide. Nigeria is a multi-ethnic and culturally diverse society consisting of 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. With an abundance of resources, it is Africa’s biggest oil exporter, ranks first in Africa in farm output and also has the largest natural gas reserves on the continent. Despite some development challenges, Nigeria possesses strong business and investment fundamentals and represents a tremendous market opportunity for Canadian companies looking to invest, export products or source imports.
The October Canada-Nigeria Business and Investment Summit is organized by Chamber members Leadership and Governance Canada and MineAfrica. The program is focused on trade and investment opportunities between Canada and Nigeria in the following sectors: Agriculture, Alternate Energy – solar, wind, etc., Education and Training, Health Care, Infrastructure – real estate, transportation (roads, rail, port), etc., Aviation, Mining, Technology and ICT, and Film and Media Production. See the official website at here.
Ahead of this important conference, thank you to all who joined us at the September 8th Official Cocktail Reception. We are delighted to return to our regular cocktail reception events, with this Nigeria reception having served as our first post-COVID evening event - following our daytime events this year that have already resumed in full-force.
